It is such a perfect time of the year for parents and children to have fun
together. It is a time to make great and long lasting memories. One way to
do this is to do a craft like painting or stenciling. It can be so much fun
and very creative.
Stenciling is a wonderful way to add color and a shape to fabrics, walls
and other surfaces. Many people purchase stencil forms from stores but you
can also make your own. You can use fabric paint to make the look of the stencil
come to life. Fabric paint and stencils are able to be purchased at fabric
or department stores. You can also use many object to obtain a certain creative
look. Some of these items are paint brushes, sponges, your own hand print,
wadded up waxed paper, rags, and much more. The craft department is usually
the place to go to find stenciling items as well as all of the other tools
you may need.
Plan for the project you are about to make. You can make a window treatment,
wall hanging, bench cushion cover, pillow covering, blanket, duvet cover,
table cloth or just a project for fun. Try to coordinate the fabric and paint
with the color palate of the room. If this stenciled project is just for fun
you will not need to worry about the color palate.
If you decide to make a curtain or window treatment out of your stencil project,
plan to purchase 54 inch wide drapery fabric, a blanket or a bed sheet. A
twin sheet for a single window can be a beautiful window treatment. For more
no-sewing curtain ideas look at www.nosew.com under the photo album section.
I suggest you use a solid color piece of fabric, sheet, or whatever surface
you decide to use. A solid fabric will allow you to see the design you have
chosen more clearly. Try to be somewhat consistent with your design on your
surface.
When you have completed your project and it is totally dry, you can display
it or make it into something special for your family. Your completed project
can add fun, creativity, and personality to your home.
